The insect is established, distributed, and actively reproducing across this landscape. That arc of detections, stretching through Lorain, Rocky River, Westlake, Cleveland, Shaker Heights, South Euclid, and the Bedford Reservation, describes a footprint that matches the drift plain's urban-suburban mosaic almost perfectly.The species arrived in Berks County, Pennsylvania in 2014 and has tracked steadily westward ever since, moving along highway corridors and rail lines that carry its egg masses on vehicles and shipping materials. Its feeding biology makes it a particular threat in summer: it pierces phloem tissue and withdraws sap at scale, secreting excess sugar as honeydew that coats leaves and promotes sooty mold. Its preferred hosts include tree-of-heaven, , and a broad range of woody natives.
