Orion Society

The Orion Society is the nonprofit publisher of Orion, an advertising-free magazine of nature, culture, and place founded in 1982 and based in Great Barrington, Massachusetts since 1996. Its mission is to invite readers into a community of caring for the planet, using writing and art that explore the connection between nature and culture to inspire new thinking about how humanity might live on Earth justly, sustainably, and joyously. Alongside the magazine it runs programming such as writing workshops, and it takes no advertising, drawing about 70 percent of its budget from foundation and individual donations.
