Open Space Institute Inc

Founded in 1974, the Open Space Institute is a national conservation organization that has partnered in protecting more than 2.5 million acres across the Eastern United States, safeguarding land for clean drinking water, public recreation, wildlife habitat, and climate resilience. It protects land directly through acquisition and conservation easements, and accelerates other groups' work through its Conservation Capital program of loans and grants to partner land trusts. OSI has conserved 151,000 acres in New York State, where it began, along with properties in Maine, Virginia, South Carolina, and New Jersey, and advocates for public land protection policy including permanent funding for the federal Land and Water Conservation Fund.
