Ocean Defenders Alliance is an all-volunteer group whose stated purpose is to clean the oceans and make them safer for all life. Its boat and dive crews remove abandoned fishing nets, traps, lines, plastic, and other debris threatening ocean wildlife and habitats, working underwater with SCUBA teams and on shore-based cleanups. It has operated in California since 2002, covering coastal waters from San Diego to Ventura County, and in Hawaii since 2017 on the Big Island and Oahu.
