Formerly the Northwest Illinois Audubon Society, this Freeport-based National Audubon Society chapter has worked since 1971 for the protection of birds, their habitats and natural resources across northwest Illinois. It owns and manages two biodiversity preserves, Elkhorn Creek and Silver Creek, each over 40 acres. It also runs field trips, bird walks, citizen science, youth birding and native plant advocacy for its 300-plus member families.
