New York Restoration Project

New York Restoration Project works with residents across all five boroughs of New York City to renovate community gardens, restore parks, plant trees, and promote urban agriculture, on the stated premise that access to high-quality public green space is a fundamental right. It stewards over 80 acres of parkland in Northern Manhattan, owns and operates more than 50 community gardens citywide, distributes thousands of free trees annually, and builds roughly ten new gardens each year. Founded by Bette Midler about 30 years ago, it reports that over 1.6 million New Yorkers now live within a 10-minute walk of an NYRP green space.
