New Mexico Bison Restoration Network

The New Mexico Bison Restoration Network is a rewilding project in northern New Mexico that aims to meet the simultaneous needs of landscape scale restoration, carbon sequestration, and community food security. It returns bison to their historical range to expand herd genetic diversity, researches virtual fencing as a containment method, and compares the ecological outcomes of bison grazing against cattle grazing. It also carries out low tech process based riparian restoration on lands it manages, building small dams from young conifers to mimic beaver activity, and plans a nonprofit model providing inexpensive meat shares to local consumers.
