Misty Of Chincoteague Foundation

The Misty of Chincoteague Foundation, founded in 1990, promotes in children a love for reading and an appreciation for fine art, perpetuating the legend of Misty by preserving and displaying educational and research material and the Misty of Chincoteague artwork. It was formed after a young reader's letter to author Marguerite Henry led to a fundraising effort that bought Misty's homeland on Chincoteague Island rather than let it be sold to townhouse developers. Its stated mission today is to promote literacy, writing, and conservation of places that allow the imagination to soar unfettered.
