Miami-Dade Reef Guard Association is a 501(c)(3) founded in 2009 to protect the marine environment off Miami-Dade County, where a lack of mooring infrastructure was leaving natural reefs exposed to anchor damage. It established the local mooring buoy program, now funded and managed by the county's Department of Regulatory and Economic Resources, and promotes artificial reef deployment to draw diver pressure off the natural reef. A current project trains volunteer divers to collect data for 3D underwater maps of five artificial reef sites.
