Menhaden Defenders

Menhaden Defenders advocates for leaving enough Atlantic and Gulf menhaden in the water for the wildlife that depends on them, targeting the industrial reduction fishery that harvests hundreds of millions of the fish annually for fish meal and oil. The group surveys osprey nests and documents fish availability to measure how forage depletion affects seabirds, whales, dolphins, and gamefish. It presents that evidence in fishery management proceedings and runs public education and volunteer programs.
