Martin Oyster Restoration Initiative (MORI) is dedicated to improving local water quality through the power of oysters, working in Martin County, Florida, and the neighbouring St. Lucie County and Indian River Lagoon. It collects discarded oyster shells from partner restaurants in the Stuart area, cures them for six months, and packs them into reef bags that give new oysters a place to settle and grow. Oysters filter particles and toxins from the water, and the reef structures reduce wave energy and shoreline erosion.
