The Marine Debris Foundation was established by Congress through the Save Our Seas 2.0 Act in December 2020 as the official charitable partner of NOAA's Marine Debris Program. It funds and scales solutions that prevent, remove, and reduce marine debris and plastic pollution, working through its Clean Oceans Innovation Hub, the Genius Prize for marine debris innovation, and community grantmaking. Grantees have included groups in Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
