Long Creek Watershed Management District

The Long Creek Watershed Management District implements the Long Creek Watershed Management Plan, designing, constructing, maintaining, inspecting and monitoring stormwater management structures across the Long Creek watershed in southern coastal Maine, which drains through South Portland, Portland, Westbrook and Scarborough into the Fore River and Casco Bay. It manages Clean Water Act permit compliance on behalf of 95 regulated landowners, including 89 private properties, three municipalities, two state agencies and one regional waste facility. Its restoration work aims to improve in-stream habitat and bring Long Creek into compliance with Maine Water Quality Standards after decades of development-driven degradation.
