Lionfish University is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness and reducing the damage caused by the invasive lionfish, which it says have been decimating reefs and weakening ecosystems across the Western Atlantic for over 30 years. It works with NOAA researchers on developing effective, inexpensive lionfish traps, and runs a Field Reporter network through which the public submits reports and helps test control methods. Other programs include an international lionfish derby, a Cayman reef fish restoration project, and education promoting lionfish as a sustainable food source.
