Lakesides River Park Conservancy

Lakeside's River Park Conservancy was established in 2001 to restore 100 acres of depleted sand mine along the San Diego River in Lakeside, California. The restored land now provides critical riparian habitat, flood protection, and improved water quality, and the conservancy maintains a two mile segment of the San Diego River Trail running from Channel Road in Lakeside to the eastern edge of Santee. Its work includes native planting, invasive species eradication, fire risk reduction through fire breaks and brush removal, and building the San Diego River Science Field Station for students, teachers, and scientists.
