La Purisima Audubon Society
La Purisima Audubon Society is the National Audubon Society chapter for northern Santa Barbara County, based in Lompoc, California. It is the steward of the Wildlife Natural Resources Area at Vandenberg Air Force Base, a wetland nature preserve it helped create in 1990 with the base and the California Coastal Conservancy from former sewage settling ponds and adjacent riparian woodland, maintained as a Pacific Flyway stopover for migratory birds. Through its PRIDE program it trains volunteer citizen scientists to run twice-monthly shorebird surveys at the Lower Santa Ynez River estuary.
