La Plata Open Space Conservancy

La Plata Open Space Conservancy is a nationally accredited land trust based in Durango that works with private landowners across southwest Colorado to permanently protect open lands with agricultural, wildlife habitat, recreational, and historical or archaeological value. Its conservation easements cover over 8,200 acres of working farm and ranch land along with more than 20,000 acres of winter elk habitat and migration corridors. It also stewards over 1,700 acres of public parks and more than 57 miles of trails, and runs internships and restoration projects that connect young people to conservation work.
