Kansas Riverkeeper

Kansas Riverkeeper is the full-time public advocate program of Friends of the Kaw, a grassroots conservation nonprofit based in Lawrence, Kansas, that works to protect and preserve the 173-mile Kansas River from the junction of the Smoky Hill and Republican Rivers to Kaw Point in Kansas City. The organization advocates for rehabilitation of the river's water quality and wildlife habitat, and promotes compatible public recreational use and adequate public access. Its work includes educational paddle trips, river cleanups, water quality monitoring, and pursuing illegal dumping and pollution violations along the river, which supplies drinking water to more than 950,000 Kansans.
