International Humic Substances Society

The International Humic Substances Society is a scientific society founded in Denver in 1981 to bring together researchers in the soil, water, and coal sciences who study humic substances and natural organic matter. It produces and distributes standard reference samples of humic and fulvic acids extracted from aquatic sources, soil, leonardite, and peat, along with their analytical data. It also convenes biennial international conferences and funds national chapters plus travel and research awards for graduate students and early-career researchers.
