High Sierra Hikers Association Inc

The High Sierra Hikers Association is an all-volunteer California nonprofit, formed in 1991, that educates its members and the public about issues affecting hikers in California's High Sierra. It argues that National Park Service and Forest Service management favors commercial interests such as packstock outfits and livestock grazers, and it advocates science-based limits to protect meadows, wildlife, water quality and the wilderness experience. The group reviews federal plans and policies, mobilizes members to comment on management decisions, and has litigated stock-use limits in the John Muir, Ansel Adams and Sequoia and Kings Canyon wilderness areas.
