Great Himalaya Trail Project

The Great Himalaya Trail Project is a New Hampshire 501(c)(3), based in Exeter, that works with a Nepali field team to help villagers along a 1,000 km trekking trail across Nepal build their own eco-tourism livelihoods. It supports local tea shops, lodges, restaurants, and guide services in remote mountain communities, drawing on community mobilization methods developed in Makalu and elsewhere in Nepal over more than twenty years. The stated aim is to raise household income in some of the country's poorest villages while tying tourism to conservation of the trail corridor.
