The Garden Conservancy is a national nonprofit founded in 1989 whose mission is to preserve, share, and celebrate America's gardens and diverse gardening traditions for the education and inspiration of the public. It has helped more than 100 outstanding American gardens survive, many of them National Historic Landmarks, by working directly with garden owners and preservation experts. Its Open Days program, the country's only national garden-visiting program, has opened more than 4,500 private gardens across over 40 states to more than 1.4 million visitors since 1995.
