Friends of the Cannon River Wilderness Area is a volunteer group formed in 1995 to preserve and enhance the 850-acre Cannon River Wilderness Area, which runs about three miles along the Cannon River between Northfield and Faribault in Rice County, Minnesota. Volunteers lead guided walks, publish maps and educational materials, and work with Rice County Parks on trail work, tree planting, buckthorn removal and controlled burns. The park protects a remnant Big Woods landscape of maple-basswood forest, prairie, calcareous fen and river habitats.
