Friends Of Sylvania

Friends of Sylvania is a 501(c)(3) incorporated in Michigan in 2009 to promote the protection and careful management of the 18,327-acre Sylvania Wilderness in the Ottawa National Forest, so its wilderness character and natural resources are preserved for future generations. Most of its effort goes into volunteer work parties that map and control invasive terrestrial plants and clear trails and portages, supported in part by a Forest Service grant. The group also tracks issues including climate change, deer browsing, and hemlock survival, supports research partnerships, and publishes newsletters and annual reports.
