Friends of Perdido Bay is a Pensacola, Florida group documenting and fighting pollution in Perdido Bay, the roughly 50-square-mile estuary straddling the Florida and Alabama state line at the mouth of the Perdido River. It focuses on wastewater discharged into the bay by the International Paper mill, publishing its own bacteriological surveys, dioxin and heavy metal analyses of mill sludge, and commissioned ecological studies of the upper bay. The group also tracks Florida DEP permitting decisions and nutrient limits for the bay, and publishes a bimonthly newsletter for members.
