Friends Of Live Oaks

Friends of Live Oaks (FOLO) is a citizen advocacy group of volunteers in Virginia Beach, Virginia who work to protect, plant, and transplant the live oak (Quercus virginiana), the city's official tree. The group formed in the early 2000s out of concern over the loss of live oaks and other maritime forest trees in the Hampton Roads area, and helped secure the live oak's designation as Virginia Beach's city tree in 2004. It has distributed more than 900 live oak trees to residents, partners with city offices to plant trees in public spaces, and runs education, advocacy, and tree adoption programs alongside a live oak nursery.
