Friends Of Fort Greene Park

Friends of Fort Greene Park is a 501(c)(3) formed in 2017 to protect and preserve the urban forest in Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn, with forestry care that maintains the canopy. It opposes the NYC Parks plan to remove 78 mature trees and pave over roughly 13,000 square feet of the park, backing a counter-proposal that keeps the trees while still delivering drainage, ADA accessibility, playground and restroom improvements. The group works through legal advocacy, community organizing and environmental education, drawing on landscape architects, urban foresters and historic preservation specialists to defend the park's original Olmsted and Vaux design.
