Friends of Cedar Lake began in October 2019 when neighbors of Cedar Lake in North Falmouth, Massachusetts gathered over concerns about the lake's health, and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in March 2021. Its mission is to help restore and maintain the health of Cedar Lake and the adjacent watershed, including a reduction of invasive plants and toxic pollutants, for ecological resources, health, recreation, aesthetics, and property values. The group tracks problems such as excessive aquatic vegetation, algae blooms, and declining frog, turtle, and fish populations, conducts water quality testing, and shares guidance on fertilizer use and septic systems.
