Friends of Casco Bay is a Maine nonprofit formed in 1989 by citizens responding to a report that named these waters among the most polluted in the nation, with the mission of improving and protecting the environmental health of Casco Bay. It is home to the Casco Baykeeper, a full-time advocate who works to ensure compliance with environmental laws, educate the public, and inform policy. The organization tracks water quality year round from three continuous monitoring stations and collects seasonal samples around the bay, building one of the largest long-term marine water quality data sets in New England.
