Friends of Boone Trace preserves and promotes the Boone Trace, the path Daniel Boone and his Transylvania Company survey party marked in the spring of 1775 from the Holston River through the Cumberland Gap to Boonesborough. The Lexington, Kentucky nonprofit publishes maps, directions, and guides for hiking, biking, and auto touring the route, along with historical and educational material. It also operates the Windy Gap Basecamp and works to connect the Boone Trace Heritage Trail to U.S. Bike Route 21.
