Coalition For The Preservation Of Fishers Creek Inc

The Coalition for the Preservation of Fishers Creek was formed in 1992 by landowners along the creek to keep Fishers Creek a viable waterway and refuge for more than 25 species of fish, birds, and marine animals plus over seven types of flora. Its central work is periodic maintenance of the creek mouth where it meets the James River, dredging to keep the channel from silting in and turning the creek into a swamp. Current efforts include repairing and adding a jetty and re-dredging the mouth, carried out with the Virginia Institute of Marine Science, the City of Newport News, and the Virginia Marine Resources Commission.
