Chester Riverkeeper

The Chester Riverkeeper is the ShoreRivers program advocating for the Chester River, a brackish Chesapeake Bay tributary draining a 368 square mile watershed on Maryland's Eastern Shore, along with its tributaries including Morgan Creek, Southeast Creek, Langford Bay, Grays Inn Creek, and the Corsica River. The riverkeeper monitors river health and confronts the nutrient pollution that fuels algal blooms and dead zones, plus the sediment that smothers oyster beds, tracing it to poorly managed farms, failing septic systems, and untreated stormwater. ShoreRivers reports that nutrient and sediment pollution are decreasing in many areas and that submerged aquatic vegetation has taken root as critical habitat.
